Richard Karn

Does everyone think that Richard Karn is a better host than Louie Anderson,let me know youre thoughts.

   I think Louie is funnier, but I think Richard makes a better host if that makes sense. Of course neither one even comes close to Combs.

Louie has a quicker wit, but was not exactly America's most likeable television personality.  Richard has very little genuine comedic talent, but is so gosh darn likeable.

In three seasons, Louie didn't become any more likeable.  After just one season, Richard is at least starting to learn to fake the wit.

To distill my comparison of them to a point that's probably unfair: Louie takes a funny joke and stretches it out until it's not funny. Richard K. takes lots of his jokes and comments, funny or unfunny, and cuts them unnaturally short.

I think Karn is the better host, but I really do wish he had more confidence in what he's saying. Even after a year, whenever he says \"If it's up there, you'll have drawn first blood\", he sounds like he's digging it desperately out of some improvisational recess of his mind.

To me, Louie was really laid back (which I actually kinda liked).  But, he was laid back to the point of showing little enthusiasm, which made him seem almost boring to watch.  What he was able to do is react to what the contestants say in a more natural way than Richard Karn seems to.  I have to admit, as corny as it was, I kinda liked when Louie would \"trigger\" the try again buzzer when explaining the rules to the second contestant, as well as cueing the clock to appear.  Little things, but it made it seem more interesting to watch.

Richard, on the other hand, is more \"watchable\".  His voice is easier to handle.  He just seems like a nice guy.  Someone you'd like to invite over to your house for dinner.  

Neither one of them are close to Combs or Dawson.

While he's a decent host, some of Karn's schtick somewhat bothered me.  For example, when a family likely won't get enough points to win Fast Money, he'll just go \"You'll need x points.  There are 100 people. (pause)\"   He doesn't seem to do anything with that statement (like joke around) and might give the family false hope.

He does make a better fit within the show by him having some fun with the families than Louie, even though I was never bothered by Louie's shortcomings (harsh voice, being somewhat jaded, etc.).

 You did bring up one positive thing that Louie used to do. Another one that always got a chuckle, right before the question he'd always make a crack about a silly fake poll group. For a better explanation, see my sig. :-)

However, I think Karn has finally found himself. He loosened up, and he's not as loud as last season. He also sounds a lot like Ray Combs. :-)

Heh--that was probably my absolute least favorite part of his run as host, even beating out the food/fat jokes.

Richard Karn blows Louie out of the water, easily. (Metaphorical water that is.)

Richard's just so much more likeable than Louie, possibly because his role of Al Borland carried over to \"Family Feud.\" Richard also seems to enjoy hosting the show more than Louie did. I always got the impression that Louie was just there to do the show then get home as quickly as possible.

Even though many of Richard's jokes fall flat, he doesn't get discouraged and that's a redeeming quality.

I'd say Richard has the ability to become the next Ray Combs, personally.

I'm surprised no one mentioned how horrible Louie was at reading the   Fast Money questions. Rarely did he make it through all 5 questions without at least a stumble or two. Other than that I thought he was pretty good.

Karn isn't as funny as Louie (IMO), but I still like him better.

I disagree.

If I'm watching Feud, usually that's because it's a funny show. To me, the host has to be a comedian first and a game show host second. Louie's voice gets annoying, but not nearly as annoying as Richard essentially repeating the contestants answer and getting a laugh.

IMO, I'd put Richard + Louie in the same catagory, and Karn and Combs in another - they are both good hosts, but they just aren't as funny as the first two.

Louie was... well, Louie was Louie. We used to joke about the way he'd go to a commercial, trying to relate it to the questions he'd just asked, and sounding like he was desperate to find a good line. He had his place, but I don't think Family Feud was for him.

Richard just seems kinda nervous to me. I watched a Season II episode a couple of days ago and he seemed toned down to me, as if someone had told him to stop shouting or something. I still prefer him to Louie but as others have said, Combs and Dawson are still lightyears ahead of these two.
